Redbacks or Blundstone, another Aussie make. Mine are Redbacks and wouldnt look at much else if you like elasticated ankle boots.

The OP says that he doesn't like Dealer boots, so that's Redbacks etc. out; decent walking boots would seem the only option, though I am not sure how they will do with farm work. My outdoor work is split between wearing wellies and Redbacks, I have no other work boots but a single pair of Hoggs Rigger boots which will last forever, because they are too bl**dy uncomfortable to wear....

I did a lot of climbing, walking and trekking when I was younger, but haven't been in the market for such boots in over twenty years. I have just googled Scarpa boots - my preferred make back then - and, remarkably, the prices haven't changed that much. But I still wouldn't want to spend that sort of cash on boots and have them ruined by cowsh*t etc..

I can't see much point in any 'fabric' boots, they just suck in the crap and keep it, so I stick to wellies for all wet work and the Redbacks when and where it's dry. But, since we have a Kiwi-kit depot down the road now, I might give their Rossi boots a try when my most knackered pair or Redbacks finally become unwearable - which takes some time, because I use superglue and a lot of polish to keep them going.

Well I would recommend the Grafters combat boots I bought new (£50) with my last haix boot order.

Really comfortable, on par with my redbacks....If anything abit too comfortable, like wearing shearing shoes...... Sharp stones can be felt! :wideyed:
Very light.

But......... they don't grip at all on concrete!:inpain: wet grass is ok......but concrete or big stones :X3:

I have a pair of lace up Redbacks. They're ace. Much more comfortable than most I tried and actually pretty cheap (if you import from everything aussie, the hard yakka stuff is excellent too). Lasted for about a year so far with no real wear, and I wear them everyday. Survived being chewed by the terrier too!

I put my money where my mouth is and got a pair of Altbergs on eBay, £53.95 delivered. First impressions are that they are lighter than the Haix and my feet stayed cooler.

I bought the Haix 13 months ago so probably 12 months of use and polished 6 times maybe. If I had cleaned and treated them they would probably have lasted longer. We'll see how the Yorkshire made Altberg last

Which ones do you have?

Went for my annual purchase last week, always had Redbacks before, but find the heels wear out with all the driving I do. I'm trying a pair of Blundstones to see if they do any better.

I know it's been done to death but I really need some boots
I've tried to support uk manufacturers and always had BUCKLERS but this is the second pair that have had sole separate from upper despite their guarantee of life of the boot
I have contacted Bucklers by the way and they are not interested, any way ......
Boot recommendations please, no dealer type boots as they cripple me, good lace up type boots
Work involves stock and general farm duties so often in wet grass
I use wellies for really shoit jobs
Thanks

Have just ordered a second pair of these from Strauss; they're a really comfy boot and have lasted very well. A bit on the heavy side but I've been really pleased with them. Strauss do add VAT to safety boots at the checkout; if you're not VAT registered though you can contact them and the order can be placed without VAT added as they're 0% rated.
How can they charge vat on an item which is 0% ??

I wondered that too; it's added automatically at checkout and when I challenged them they seemed very comfortable with the situation. I guess if you're VAT registered yourself then it makes very little difference in the long run, very different if you're not though and if the purchase gets missed off the VAT reclaim I guess they're quids in? :scratchhead: I've no idea where that stands with HMRC and such like but it does feel underhand to me.

The company is genuine with very good quality stuff but adding VAT to 0% rated products is, I agree, very scammy indeed.
I've just had a quick look at the .Gov.uk site and was struck by the following:

"You can’t claim back all of the amount you’ve paid if you pay the wrong amount of VAT on a purchase."

My understanding of VAT isn't very good but that sentence is quite worrying from an inspection point of view...

As it is yet another boot thread i will once again say German para boots,, extremely comfortable. If you want really cheap good unlined leather boots go for the Austrian ones . Under £30 a pair and most are like new.
