Bore hole problem

my grazing field water comes from a bore hole , installed by previous owner . attache 2" petrol water pump via cam lock and pump up say 5-10000l to a storage tank.

the land is low lying with river on 2 sides (i wont let cattle drink from river due to our high health status)

for the first few years its been fine , last year and recently noticed the water going in to the bore hole cant keep up with the pump? and pump sucks in air ?

i know nothing about them other than it used to work fine and now it doesn't

can anything be done to rejuvenate or improve water supply in to the bore hole ?

also how far down should the suction pipe go relative to the depth of the bore hole ?

It's an unusual setup to suck out of a borehole. It would rely on the water level being theoretically less than 10m down (6-7m would be a push for that style of pump). Being at low level as you say the water table may be reliably that high but a 2" pump will drop it pretty quick. I'm not surprised that you are having issues.

The more conventional approach is a submerged pump, even then it will be a slower draw.

i know its no the 'normal' but im guessing was put in like this as its off grid ,

so would a submersible BH pump and a generator be the way to go ?

or possibly a 12v & solar pannel type set up . if such thing exists

Yeah, submersible/genny would the straightforward option. It will take a bit longer.

Be careful, if you are sucking air
firstly where is it coming from
second air ingress will damage many pumps as they lose prime.
you say it is a few years old and conected by hoselock connection
what stops the water draining back, when you are not pumping, is there a foot valve?
have you replaced all the seals, is the pipe good and not leaking air in?
how deep is the bore?
perhaps the bore has collapsed

I assume the bore sleeve has slots cut in to let the water in? Ours got festered up with iron and so wasn't really yielding properly, chap dropped some yellow crystals in it and circulated the water for twenty four hours before pumping it out (the stuff is non toxic so you don't need to dispose of it properly) and it was fine

people who put my bore hole in, said, if it got furred up with iron oxide, we should tip a load of hypochlorite in, and recirculate through the pump to clean it all out, then pump out and re connect the system.
