Some whinging about what is done? there's a reason people don't dwell on the negatives, by all means we understand it might happen, but don't dwell on it like you seem to have a fetish for anything that goes wrong, do not forget, regardless of brexit, the world economy is slowing down, as for left to those who didn't vote for it, well don't bother then, leave it to the likes of Micheal gove, Boris and leadsom, if you want to have a sulk, do not engage the debate, the vote has been had, stop moaning and make the most of this opportunity to drive this industry forward.

i really don't get this ' you made your bed, now lie in it' attitude, we bloody well will, so far it's turned out just as i expected, if you want the leavers to deal with it, then pipe down, the vote is done.

Instead of moaning, put some constructive idea's out there, not just rerunning a debate that was done to death before the 23rd of june.

Capiche?
Its exactly what your leader ,May, has done! put Johnson,Fox,and Davis in to sort out the bed they have made for everyone else.Leadsome is clueless, and TM has bunked Gove off to the back benches. As fenboy said, the NFU are trying to put some constuctive ideas out there,at least the ones who turn up to the meetings.

so where exactly does your agenda of posting everything wrong with whats happened, fit in? what does it add to the debate, i would really love to hear, what a strong remainer, has to say, why they do this? what other than out of frustration at the result, it has anything to add to the debate of where we go on from here.

What the nfu should do, is forget the membership for a while, grow up and appeal to all farmers to come together and try and work something out, for what will be the most important debate farmers in this country will ever have, because those who have not got the money to spend on an nfu membership fee, have no voice, while the nfu being the only body the government will actually listen to.

What message exactly? and what will it achieve, pointing out this so called 'message'
already been touched upon, how many dairy farmers/ livestock farmers can make an early morning meeting? not asif there's a Crisis currently going to have spare staff running about either.

But then, i wasn't invited, so that echo chamber will carry on as per.
To be perfectly honest I can think of better things to do at 7am during harvest than attend an NFU meeting to discuss the consequences of something I don't agree with but we are where we are and we all need to contribute to the debate

You finish st Harper in 1980 or later?
I was only there a short time, unfortuneately my father became ill and my brother and him could not cope with the work at home,so i had to jack it in ,and go back to my local Agric college on a much shorter course. Was good fun though.I heard the same about the hipnotists after effects aswell.

Weve got to get in there, and make our presence and interests felt.If we dont ,we will get swamped by the RSPCA,Nat Trust, etc and all the other Environmental groups and "green blob"
see above post in reply to you

The nfu has to be more inclusive, now is not the time, to make it difficult for people to have their voice heard, it's not like the nfu is hard up.

I agree as a member but not a fan of the organisation this is the first time I have seen them be proactive about anything I suspect they will end up throwing millions at it 5 was the rumoured figure

I post to balance the debate on here, and what i believe to be the reality and truth of the situation for us ordinary farmers,as it is a "farming forum". Nothing really wrong has happened for farming yet;it is much too early. But i think the beef and sheep men could be struggling in 1 to 3 years time.Grain might not be affected as much,as it is traded fairly "globally" already.British dairying could have a tremendous bright future if we had "new MMB". I am not clever enough to put all my thoughts into words;we need Guy Smith on here. Steven Carrs column in last weeks FW was good, and could be the way forward.

The price/cost of rent of the land itself in the uk puts the input of beef above the rest of the world?

Nobody is forced to use expensive land, inputs and systems to produce beef. If it doesn't pay the basics.... don't do it.
The greatest costs are fixed from without.... Compliance with regulations. Compliance with spec. Compliance with traceability. External forces such as the TB/badger policies. Etc. Etc.

Is there any non expensive land in the UK?

Plenty round here you could have the grass for taking it away...... or have the grazing for nowt that will take a native cow and her calf for a season with no inputs..... Ok.... You might have to pull some fence wire up and knock in a few stakes.....
Land is only as expensive as the market for the required application demands.
I wouldn't think buying land on the back of the earnings from a beef production business is viable....... But if I had cash to invest long term and needed to have a home anyways..... Then farming a sustainable beef enterprise that wipes it's face is as good a way of wasting my life away as any.
