Brexit is destroying Britain

Guess who has the four aces up their sleeve, in the Tata / HMG gigafactory negotiations?
Guess who wrote a note to self, before this meeting was arranged, which reads “they need us, more than we need them”?
Heres a clue. It isn’t Little Rishi.

Food inflation doesn’t have anything to do directly with Brexit. Come on now, stop digging that hole
Now, now, don’t be bold. UK imports a vast amount of food and groceries. All of which of course have gone up in price because of global issues. Energy, Ukraine, post Covid stuff etc.
Food inflation in ROI latest update is 13%.
The difference is, UK has added very significant non tariff barriers to EU imports, and of course lost a lot of its fruit and veg staff in the Brexit process.
The result is inevitable and undeniable.
Moggy’s nanny must be asking nanny type questions of him, as she unloads the weekly shop from the back of the Range Rover. No doubt he retorts “just you wait fifty years or so, dear Nanny. Then you will see just what a bright child you helped raise”!

No idea what your current bitching / whining is about because I don't follow this thread at all. But thanks for the tag anyway; good news about the new battery plant though, eh? :)
Tell you what. You should have made Wimbledon. Your backhand parry is on a par, with Roger Federer!
Tell me about the battery plant though, I genuinely haven‘t seen any credible source reporting on it, in the depth of detail I would expect. That greedy man from Tata, will of course have long since recognised “who needs who, more than who”! Consequently the purported negotiations, will require two willing parties. One, Little Rishi will come armed with a forced smile and cheque book. The other, the Man from Tata, will arrive grinning merrily from ear to ear, armed only with a ball point pen, which he will unceremoniously present to Little Rishi. Mr. Tata will mutter some nice things about Britain and toddle home, with his balance sheet very nicely improved. Pleb in red wall Sunderland, will feel happy. The EUcrats will investigate of course to see if the bung contravenes the terms of state aid conditions, in the withdrawal agreement.
Oh, and the rest of the car industry will simply blackmail HMG, for equal bungs…

According to the news £800,000,000 and rising to build in Somerset. Great for jobs. IF it ever gets built.
And yes, Mr Tata is laughing his arse off.

I find the continual sniping between you usual protagonists amusing. But will comment. Does the advantageous Irish Company tax rates not count as a inducement to business to base in Eire. And as such is nothing different. Sometime the anti Brexit sentiment is just a wee tad tiring.

Here’s the difference. Eire has flat out refused to allow EU or anybody else, decide it’s corporation tax rate. It’s national competence.
On the other hand, Global Britain has signed a withdrawal deal with the EU, which has a significant section about state aid. Right there is your complication.
Of course you could also go down the Eire route, and come up with a taxation policy to drive investment. Oh hang on a minute. Didn’t the bright Trusterf**k try that, and within hours almost caused the collapse of the pension industry and a run on sterling.

Oh come on now. EU countries are also offering incentives to companies to set up on their shores. It’s called protectionism - maybe you’ve heard of this turn of phrase - non?
But, but, but, Global Britain is supposed to be the anthitisis of the corrupt protectionist racket of the EU.
Are you now saying Globsl Britain itself is now becoming a corrupt protectionist racket? The corrupt part of course well and truly established under Boris.

Thank you for the explanation. Although all lost on me - as I am not a businessman or a politician just an ordinary Joe voter.

I appreciate it sounds as though at a national level the EU extracted a good deal to keep my country suppressed following leaving the EU. And it sounds as though during the UK period of membership and since the Eire government as managed to extract a good deal - possibly as it is a small country oft considered the underdog? Problem I see with that as an ordinary Joe such clever and understandable practice by the EU as a collective and member states as individual members can be explained to me as an ordinary Joe as the EU countries ganging up on UK interests. Tied in shackles. Hindered after leaving the EU. And I would suggest that is not good. While I am sure it seems good to you that the UK is made to suffer for the foolishness (?!) of leaving the EU to us individuals ongoing repartitions is not helpful to eventual reconciliation. Just provides ammunition to Mr Farage and his ilk to remind me the ordinary Joe why I may have voted to Leave and going forward why the Europeans are B.......s

As I say I find the posts on here informative and amusing in equal measure and me personally is not going to affect anything.

Bridgewater is a ruddy funny place to build a factory that will supposedly create 9,000 jobs. You would have thought the West Mids, North East or Central belt would be the more obvious choices. Even the local MP was saying yesterday that the announcement from the BBC needs words of caution.
