Not nasty, friendly heifers just when get to the end of the cake want to knock it off but getting better. Wouldn’t say they’re any different to other heifers we’ve had. Not the widest of heifers maybe a downside but calve at 24month and seem to grow and fill out a lot in the first year. All 3 of them black and white heifers have had jingle heifer calves which look nice.

I don’t mind the stubborn ones just not keen on the ones that want to kick your head off in the parlour.

Oh no, not nasty. Only in like a batch of 10 heifers a year max so they’re well handled which helps I guess

New Pli figures figures out this morning, Catlane Caleb still number one with an increased Pli of 373. Not bad for a bull born in 2008 if you believed all the spin the new genomic bulls should have knocked him off the top years ago.

10 excellent & 20 vg is an average classification visit so I don’t worry too much about type figures. His type figures are a little better this morning

Havent any milking from caleb but have loads of no 3 bull sochar.Both caleb and sochar are not heavily used probably because they are perfect in every way except high milk yield my pure jersey heifers outperform my sochar heifers

Got a few Sochar bullers here, really looking forward to calving them down but will probably put them to Holstein

Our Sochars are 7th & 8th calvers now, haven't been disappointed by their yields, cant remember what they were like as heifers, great milk proteins too.

Premier was one of the top bulls but no longer is anywhere near the top, however my premier daughters are phenomenal imo.

I've got lots of Chad's and really like them, their daughters are even more of an improvement imo

There's some awesome bulls in stud available atm with great pedigrees behind them

Genomic results will never ever be 100% accurate and right now they're really not as good for the breed as like say the holsteins, but they are a good indicator imo of which bulls to use and not use. The more people supply Genomic data through testing daughters of these bulls the more accurate the Genomic results will become, but this of course takes time.

A lot of the best bulls in the breed were born 15 years ago or more, pinnacle, glenalbyn, hylke. These are all bulls I'd be happy to use today if they were available and more than match any of the top genomic bulls. Don't think you could say the same about the holstein breed where the top bulls today are far superior in milk quality and fertility etc so why hasn't the apparent progress been made with the Friesians?

Genuine question, would you be quicker (I’m talking decades), breeding your prefect friesian from the holstein gene pool, than from the friesian one? Most company's now have “friesian type holsteins” advertised.
