Britmix milk feeders - fantastic service.

Was going to post this last week, but never got round to it.

I have had a Britmix automatic lamb feeder for a long time, probably close on 20 years, and have been very pleased with it. Last weekend we had a power cut, followed by an hour or so with much reduced voltage (lights were all dim). When I got out to the shed, I found the electrics had tripped out, and investigation showed it was the milk feeder that was tripping them. I narrowed the fault down to a solenoid the water valve, which had buggered itself up, presumably from the low V.

Being early on a Sunday morning, and knowing that Britmix have unpredictable working hours, I rang and left a message on the answerphone, asking them to ring back the next day if they were in the workshop (at Church Stretton, about 30 mins away). I had a phone call at about 11am on Sunday, and had a chat about the part I needed and he offered to meet me at the workshop on Sunday afternoon. We met up as arranged, sorted the replacement part, had a long chat about his machines, and I was back with a working machine by 4pm.

Superb service from a true gentleman and way above and beyond what I would expect. If anyone is looking for a calf/milk feeder, I can thoroughly recommend the machine, the company and the service provided.(y)(y)(y)

We have the 2000 model but it must be at least 15 years old now.I may be wrong but think it holds 25kg, even with 60-80 lambs a hopper full will last through the night. We tend to only fill it up with small amounts in case a leak in a pipe or a joint comes apart when nobody is around amazing how much milk can come from a small pipe:cry::cry::banghead:

new ones come with two bowls,.......can clean one when you have a spare 5 mins
the added tap in to hot water tank

Only takes a couple of minutes to clean it anyway, that’s all part of the beauty of the Britmix IME.(y) Far easier/faster to clean than any other machine I’ve ever used.

Handy having a warm water tap right in the lambing shed though.:)

I have a sink with hot water in the shed, which cleans the mixing bowl in 5 minutes. It would take longer to walk to the house to put it in the dishwasher.:scratchhead:

Some folks like to make things complicated....

Alex at Britmix is a real gent and a character, very helpful.
The machine is nice and simple and works well. I am afraid though it’s a machine which will never pay for itself in reality. It does do the lambs well and saves a few hours every day for a month or two for someone, usually mrs p

As for buying pet lambs to put-on it
If they were free I would not be keen
