Broiler shavings supply issues

Had a phone call off my Arden wood shavings rep today, he called me to give me the heads up that he won’t be able to supply maxi bails this turn around and that I’ll be receiving a paper wood based blend. Has anyone already took delivery of it? What’s it like?

Cant help on this we have been high quantity straw based with wood shavings bedding now for best part of 25 years, Others I know have been Straw pellets and worked well a Chap near Kimbolton makes the pellets. We will be 100% straw for the ongoing batches Chicks in today 22/4
Seems like an awful long time ago now we use to get a Forage Harvester in to chop heston bales wheat straw for bedding worked OK until staff put his pitch fork into the chopper. Old man here now would be more worried that a Flint went through chopper causing a spark and setting the chopped pile on fire.

I have heard nothing but bad reviews of the paper/cardboard bedding that Ardens are having to issue at the moment, I have seen samples of it which gave off a horrible chemical smell along with containing small bits of plastic. Like @Chickcatcher mentioned we have now turned to straw based pellets for our next crop. Shall keep you updated with how we get on!

I have sourced some sawdust locally, I just don’t think there even trying that hard to source woodshaving as I have spoke to a couple other supplier and they have got plenty. They just don’t won’t by it in of other suppliers. I hear a lot of positive thing about straw pellet..

Ive been chasing supplies for while, untl last weds when 3 suppliers rangback in the same hour saying they could send me a load. I dardnt say no to any. so am going to fill a grain store.
