Brush on rust eater

As above I’ve got a small bottle of hamerite rust eater,brush on and destroys rust,alledgedly.has anyone used it and how did you get on.got some John Deere rims to repaint after swapping rims round and now got lots of huge rust areas on outside of rim.will rub down and prime before top coat of yellow but thought I’d give the rust eater a try.

It's good if you have a bath of it to submerse bits in for a day but not worth trying to paint it on rust in my experience. It won't do the thick, flaky bits so you have to rub them off, it dries out and runs off so you have to keep painting more on, then it won't get all of it so you have to rub it down afterwards anyway. May as well wire wheel it properly in the first place.
Just my thoughts, you may get on better

I like Trustan. You do have to rub off any loose, though.

I wouldn't bother best thing is sand blast.i have a small one about the size of a spray gun runs of a workshop compressor .Will do a propper job

Check if theres a sandblaster in your area , you can leave the tyres on , pop around to his with the wheels on a trailer and there will be no rust left when hes finished .

Satisfying to see them blast and dip and prep metal. Could watch that all day.
