Budget 2017

Borrow it

If it is to build houses what problem is there
Every one in the private sector borrows for housing mortgage which is an investment

But the government must increase the supply of houses in a big way or it will just push up prices of housing land and building materials

Clearest signal yet that farm subsidies are for the chop.
Media all wondering where on earth he is going to get the money to fund things with reduced growth forecasts, increased borrowings and stamp duty cuts.
Not hard to see where things are headed.

No signal at all that farm subs are for the chop from todays budget!

AG gets 3.1 billion a year, that wouldn't even run the NHS for 3 weeks!

Yes, stop sending money to the EU but as most of it goes on Ag they sure as hell aren't going to be falling over themselves keep doing it here instead.
All the policy noises of the past few weeks have been that food production in this country does really not matter and we can import all we need. With that mindset why would they be thinking of paying those here to do so especially when you have just announced you are now not expecting to balance the books until 2031.

This Budget could have been delivered by Gordon Brown: the emphasis has switched from reducing the UK's national debt - a pointless shibboleth, at least in today's circumstances - towards 'investing' in the future: houses, youngsters, public services.

Listen to how many times Mr Hammond promised to "invest".

What does this tell us? Mainly, I suggest, that the Tories are now more afraid of losing the next election than of losing the confidence of the foreign exchanges.

Is this important? No, because the Tory Party cannot out-bid Labour on who can promise to "invest" the most.

Biggest beneficiary of the Budget? Me, perhaps, because I doubt that I shall ever again have to endure the nonsensical reference to 'the Magic Money Tree' - everyone now knows it is alive, and thriving, in the garden of no. 11 Downing Street.

Next step? Release of the 58 Impact Assessments on the UK economy.

The end of Austerity. Only just into a five year term and the Conservatives are tipping their cap to Mr Corbyn - the Tories spooked?. Deficit reduction kicked into the extremely long grass. No balanced budget. In fact is there any idea how government spending will be funded. Is this a Labour or Conservative Government we have. Will there be a run on the pound at some stage - John McDonnel may well ask the question over the next few days. Hey ho.

Concurr. But does not mean to say they and Labour will not get a chance - entirely in the hands of the Conservative Party who have four and half years left of this parliament. Time will tell.

I agree but every day they are in power is a day nearer to labour imploding, noticed how the student loans bribe has been slowly dropped since it was shown to be a lie and their brexit shambles can only go on so long before they have to state what their position is on it
