I think the buzzard population has declined here as the number of kites has increased.
we do get stone curlews but the little ones don’t stand a chance

Yes you remind me now.
Last year mowing & watching curlew chick, buzzard swept in & killed it, then two crows scared the buzzard off. I got off the tractor & picked up the dead curlew chick seemed such a waste. Curlews pretty good at eating lapwing chicks though.
We have hares like some have rabbits though, hard to say but I'd would have thought one hare for every two acres.
