C scope cable avoidance tool

Anyone any links to a used/reconditioned cable scanner ? Ours has stopped working and need a one for a job in the new year ! Thanks in advance

If you can afford it, get a signal generator too, that way you can clip on and actively look for services rather than a passive sweep. You can also get a mouse to push up ducting and drains etc

One thing I never realised, is that the tool will only pick up a signal if the service is in use, so switch on whatever you are looking for to draw plenty of current through it and get a good signal. Just because a cable is live, it won't give off a great signal unless it is using power, for example a cable supplying a barn may be live, but unless the lights are switched on it may not give much signal.

Also an interesting thing I learnt is that in radio mode, you are picking up low frequency radio waves the military are transmitting to submarines and the metal object in the ground is re-radiating that signal
