Hello I have a week old suckler calf that had a bad calving and couldn’t stand for 3 or 4 days so fed it on the bottle. Now all it does is look for humans to feed it, it’s on its feet fine now and I’ve tried several times to latch it onto mum but no chance.
All it does when I try latch it on is look for the bottle or suck my fingers.. help!! TIA

I have a cow that will not let the calf suck, she mothers it though. Twice a day the three of us head to the crush for suckling, she stands perfectly in the crush and once the calf is a month old it will wear the cow down and she will let it suck. She did it last year as a hfr , she will not get the chance to do it a third time.

Like werzle said let it go hungry an let it suck your finger an transfer it from finger to teet, squirt some milk on finger an teet, an watch you don’t get your brains kicked in?! Perseverance and patience is the key, an no one is gonna give you a quid every time you say “stupid feckin calf” so try not to??
