Can anyone please help me identify the fruits/vegetables that are available in my town in Summer?

Hi all, I am studying holistic nutrition for my online class. below is my teacher's instructions for the assignment the main topic of this thread is to answer the first bullet point where it says "Create a list of seasons fruits and vegetables that...". I live in Chino, California, Its a small town. Years ago this town was pure farm land (though I'm not sure what specific veggies and fruits grew here (in Summer). now, in the present day, both high schools of this town have farms, which the schools use to teach their Agriculture students in a practical way. Every now and then i'll see someone riding a horse on the sidewalk. can someone please help me identify the fruits and veggies that would grow in Chino in Summer time? also i would GREATLY appreciated it if you can answer some of the other questions she is asking.
of course, im going to be doing my own research to find anything i can in the meanwhile, and any info you guys could provide would be GREAT, so that i can combine that info with the info that i willl get from googling.

Create a presentation or write a report that showcases the “holistic health” of this town. Include the following:

  • Create a list of seasonal fruits and vegetables that are available in this neighborhood (select any season you wish, but stay consistent through the exercise).
  • Research and make a list of organic farms in close proximity to this town.
    • Provide the websites or contact information of each of these farms.
  • Research the environmental issues that may apply to this town.
    • Are large, commercial farms that use dangerous pesticides in this area?
  • Include any other factors that you feel would effect the health of this community

Not having been anywhere near the US I'd suggest the old newspaper archives would be worth a visit, your local Uni/college should have an idea of which seasonal veg grow in you're area, Chaffey college in Chino and College of Agriculture building2 in Pomona.

In regards to environmental issues I'd suggest the usual urban pollution from vehicles, household cleaners and amateur gardeners would be the biggest REAL issues, oil industry (drilling and fracking) next with agriculture waaaay down the list. .

It is a bit daft posting your questions to a British farming forum. How can you expect us to answer what is grown in California - yes, I know I am also not in the UK, but I doubt if there is a single poster on here living anywhere near Chino.

@York is spot on.

Your teacher also has an aversion to modern farming. He/she has taken the attitude that all sprays used by farmers are "dangerous pesticides". They also cannot write decent English - the word is affect not effect.

Best of luck with your response. Remember you have to write what the teacher wants to read if you want a pass. Now is not the time to tell the teacher that he/she is a bigotted numbskull.

Yup that's how I read it, I was trying to be more tactful/diplomatic with regards to the teacher, while still trying to be helpful to the young OP.

I've never been to California either but I'd have thought the obvious answer is to go and find some old people! Try a retirement home or just the oldest people in your community. It's amazing how much you'll discover. There must be plenty of people around who will have grown up on farms or who have memories of their grandparents farms.

@KMA, He is not a schoolkid though, he is 25. I would have been less direct with a kid half his age, and not put them against the views of the teacher in so blunt a manner.

Not knocking the OP apart from posting on this particular forum, but he is an adult and can take bluntness.
