Is there a way of blocking unwanted callers/ numbers on a land line phone,as one can on a mobile phone. Our answering machine serves the purpose in the day time, but it is nuisance calla in the evenings weekends, that I am sure we all find an intrusion into our lives, especially when we have had a long frustrating day as most are !!! :banghead::scratchhead:(n)

Our BT answerphone has the option of blocking international and number withheld calls which seemed a good idea until we realised that we have relatives abroad and hospitals and vets tend to use withheld numbers.:scratchhead::scratchhead:

I just don't answer mine. If they want me they will call my mobile, if they don't know that number I don't want to talk t them anyway.
My phone number is new and ex directory and registered with tps or whatever it is. I still get wazzocks mithering.
I think "new" phone number just means new to you. In these parts as many others I suspect the phones are just the original 3 numbers plus a few more modern ones added to the beginning. Means there's less than a thousand numbers to go round, they are bound to recycle them.

BT numbers are recycled after 12 months, but a lot of the spam calls are done by systems that go through all the possible numbers on each exchange - hence why being ex directory doesn't help; these are often the ones with either a withheld number or a false caller ID, quite often the call centre is "offshore" and therefore not covered by TPS.

Before banning an unknown number stored on my caller display, I do a Google. (Just search the number). There are several sites that store nuisance call numbers with comments from users so it is easy to check. The NHS prefixes their number with "NHS" so it sticks out but I don't know about other numbers. They always phone again anyway as it seems to be an automated service.

Any other numbers are put on my zap list and get automatically rejected, friends and family are starred numbers and always get straight through. Go Truecall and you will wonder how you managed without it. I have no connection with the company apart from being a satisfied customer. Being technically challenged, I just told them what I wanted and they set it up for me -- by a real human being, too!

Resurrection for this sticky subject.
Need to have the ability to only accept wanted calls on a land line for a senior member of the family. Dose anyone have knowledge of either a BT premium phone or a BT8600 to be my answer.

Truecall. It was on Dragons' Den and all the Dragons wanted one.

An initial £100 for the machine, then £20 a year rental.

You can add numbers to a safe list that then get let through automatically, send them to voicemail or block.

Ive not had to block any as they hang up pretty quickly unless its a genuine call

I have absolutely no sympathy for those who are getting unwanted phone calls and can't/won't stop them.

If you tell thei technicians your problem, they will even set the machine up for you.

The good Lord helps them that helps themselves. I have no connection with the company except being a very satisfied customer.
