Car error code readers

Now Then..
I'm still looking for something to read the error codes from the cars. I currently have the ABS light on having recently replaced all the rear suspension bushes. Both sensors were disconnected during the job.
I'm currently looking at a 'Launch CRP129E', Autel make something similar. These have free lifetime updates. The more sophisticated models have annual updates at £400 a time but will still work without.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice??
I can go to the garage to have them read but it's a time thing. I'd rather read and fix DIY style..

I had a misfiring engine on a wife's mokka and five trips to the dealer couldn't cure it so bought a£14 one from Aldi. Said it was the coil pack so I replaced it and cured it. Then the engine light came on to say the cat was fecked and the reader deleted that aswell. Best £14 spent lately

If your not bothered about having a fake.

The fake delphi ds150e are good, bought mine a few years ago for about £100 and its been brilliant.

The cheap ones are better than nothing .but they often don't go deep enough to find errors.we have a autel cheapey and it's ok on basic stuff. But we had problems with a car last year and it couldn't find any thing wrong. So took it to a garage and they found loads of errors. So I ended up buying a snapon of eBay. £350.Last updated 2014.it's been used lot and found stuff that the cheaper one can't see.theirs a lot about from garages that don't want to pay for updates so just buy a new one

have you driven the car? Abs light should go out after driving if the sensors are ok.

I have an Amazon bluetooth jobby. Think it was £7 odd, must admit I didn't expect much for that money but its found every fault and reset them on brother in laws Mondeo, and found two faults on wifeys Audi.
Sometimes need google to dechipher the code it shows.
Horses for courses I suppose, but for a little diy job at the price of a fish supper you cant go wrong.

I have an Autel, works well
Be careful with some of the cheaper ones, they don`t cover all makes
Peugeot used to be an oddball when it came to reading codes, thats why I got the one I did

All cars since around 2001 are required to support at least the basic ODB II functions without recourse to manufacturer specific hardware or software. It's the extended functionality that usually requires the manufacturer specific stuff, such as Peugeot Planet etc.

depends what you got,

ive got vcds for vag (got 2006 a4)
ive got forscan for mondeo (2006 mondeo)
iid tool for discovery (2016 discovery)

these tools are all brand specific so you can read and modify the ecu's and codes,

the vcds and forscan are really cheap the iid tool cost more but worth alot to sell on.

Well,,,, after much deliberation I got a Launch CRP129EVO. It cost a bit but is hopefully multitalented enough to do all the cars without the expense of updates. Currently there's a Vectra, Corsa, 206, 207 and a Qashqai. It's looking OK so far, had it on 2 VW vehicles too..
There are cheaper Launch options but I went for the UK sourced on as warranty or repairs may cost more in the longer term..
