Car though hedge

I've got a car upside down in a field we rent. It's taken the fence and hedge with it and no sign of the driver. So far the police have spoken to the so called owner of the car having traced him and he said that he sold the car 2 days before the crash and as far as I'm aware showing no evidence of this. The police said it was insured with so called ex owner with the Co op and having checked online I can see it was insured at the time of the accident but it's showing as uninsured now.
So we're in stale mate no fence and a bloody car that's been there 3 weeks. What can we do?

When i have had cars go through a hedge i pass details that i get from the police to my insurance agent, NFU Mutual, and they sort it all for me and get appropriate compensation.
Had one about two months ago, I submitted my costs for putting good the damage and all has been sorted.
NFU Mutual might not be the cheapest for everybody but i find i get excellent service and good value.

The police will surely have asked for proof that the 'owner' had sold it? Sum of cash or bank record? Log book ? Surely new owner will have registered it to their address, obviously not.
I think unless vendor can prove sale the plod will diddly do them otherwise everyone could claim sale and walk away.

Any decent scrappie will not accept a vehicle without proof of ownership.
A common problem for friend o f mine with a back street garage. He does work on cars and owners decide it is more than they want to pay. He keeps hold of them till owner comes up with cash. But owner never comes back, he then has to go through convoluted process taking months to gain ownershp then it is off to the scrapoy where he normally loses money. Generally takes 12 months

What can we do?

Remove it from the field "as its a threat to animal welfare" and search it for the ID of any owner, past or present. If nothing materialises try applying for a V62 (iirc) "Application for a V5C" so that you get a new log book, and then weigh it in.

Or the short route: using a tame scrap yard, weigh it in on a Saturday with the reg plates removed, as apparently the 'powers that be' all work a regular 9-5 Monday to Friday, and the scrappy will "do the paperwork for you". Just remember to remove 'contaminants' first, like any derv or petrol, and the battery, the engine and gearbox, and anything else that might help cover the cost of the fence.

So if this person had driven into one of your vehicles you would inform your insurer to reclaim any costs or damge to your property(vehicle),
Why if the damage is to a hedge or fence should the process be any different?
