Carmarthen Mart

It's not looking good for the market at the moment is an understatement!

It's tough to see what was once arguably one of the best marts to take your stock to, to only having 16 store cattle in for a sale.

I hope its not another market for the chop, but unless something drastically changes I fear the worst.

As i posted on the price tracker thread i dont think the market will be lost because its a good modern market and council owned . I hope the current firm manage to lift the current gloom but im sure others will take it on with abit of help from the council if they dont. Nock Deighton perhaps

I hope bjp turn it around but they aren't releasing statements to relay confidence back to the farmers.

Help and council are two words that aren't muttered much together!

Nock Deighton, are they the ones running Newcastle Emlyn mart?

I keep hearing friends and neighbours muttering about issues and therefore not risking anything there. Vicious circle at that point, I suppose.
That's it, people won't take stock and dealers won't turn up. It's a perfect $hite storm!

Why are the farmers not supporting them???
Rumours of slow paying which by stock numbers dwindling and heading to whitland would indicate that not all's well, i hope its untrue. I can remember going to the old market in the town. I never thought in a million years gloucester would shut so anythings possible( i know it was sold for development )

I was going every week with my stand .love going there . Most of the farmers know me and have lovely chats . And breakfast is the best there , as far as I'm concerned will be a big blow , will to everyone . Past days trucks would be backed up to the motorway to unload . I'm not going down the blame game road .I've no idea what's going on , they have always treated me well. No more to say

Used to buy a lot in the old mart . Dairy heifers and calves . Best dairy sale in wales . And outside loads of stands selling stuff . Why that stopped I dont know . Wives all came and went shopping across the road , well most of them

I see dairy cows from the carmarthen area being sold in market drayton reading MD's report which would never have happened if things were right

I bought my first calf in that mart, a little Hereford heifer which ended up having 12 calves for us.

I used to fake a fever to bunk off school to go to that mart. Me and dad would watch the cattle while mum and gran would go shopping across the road to the market.

Then I would make a remarkable recovery just in time for ham, egg and chips in the cafe outside.

I was 8 or 9 at the time and I thought I was a king. Simple minds I suppose! ?

Droves of farmers driving past Carmarthen to bring cattle and sheep to Brecon. Such a shame when markets are lost.
Such a lot depends on the auctioneer. Locally, Talybont on Usk mart is a tiny affair but CTF's Rory Mathews has turned it around and it's going well in an area where we have at least 6 thriving marts within 40 miles.

I feared brecon was tailing off when they started this extra sale and selling dairy x's but they seem to be going well and attracting alot of stock again now.

We went to brecon a few years ago to scout it out with the intention of taking cattle the following month.

I thought we had tidy cattle until I rocked into that place! The quality on show was another level!
