Case-IH 885XL Brake, Clutch and Power Steering Fluid

Hello once more. I'm back with yet another rather silly question.

On a 1989/G plate 885XL, what's the correct oil to use in the brake system, clutch master cylinder and the power steering? Am I right in thinking it should be Hy Tran Plus or something similar that meets Case-IH MS 1207 or 1209? I've read that UTTO oil can be used, is this right?

Also, how are the brake and power steering systems supplied with oil? Do they have their own reservoirs to top up or are they supplied centrally? I've spotted the clutch master cylinder reservoir behind a cover in the cab.

What we've been looking at are the following:

Morris Liquimatic HY (meets Case-IH 1207 and 1209)

https://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/...sion-oils/liquimatic-hy-transmission-oil.html

Exol Harvest UTTO (meets Case-IH 1206 and 1210)

Are these suitable? The current oil in it is amber (not red), so I'm thinking its had something other than genuine Hytran put in at some point. I'd like to avoid having to go for "proper" HyTran ultra as the nearest Case-IH/New Holland dealer is about 30 miles away.

I use the Exol in my older 74 series tractors and IH combine and have had no trouble with it. The only reason I have stuck with the HyTran for 885 is because I bought 4 cans a few years ago to do a change and still have some left which I keep for the 'better' tractor. With regards to your current oil being amber it might just be very old stuff which has never been changed. I aquired a one owner 454 years ago which still had the original HyTran in it which was amber in colour. I know it was original oil because the previous owner admitted he had never changed it and had a can of HyTran he kept for topping up.
I would say that unless your tractor is a minter or doing long hours the Exol or Morris oils would be okay. Also I know a farmer who has a 584 and he only uses multi purpose 15-30 in that but it's a standard box with no T/A. Morris oils are pretty good, I have a Ford 8340 SLE and use Morris oil in the back of that with no ill effects.

Thanks for the advice. We've used Morris for years with no issues but we considered Exol so that we could tell at a glance which drum was for our Ford 4600 and which one was for the 885XL

The 885 won't be doing much heavy work and it's a simple 8F/4R box without a TA, so I think we should be ok.

Yes I think so. My 574 has a T/A and a loader and is okay with the Exol and still works hard in the summer loading bales then hauling them in and unloading often for hours at a time. The one thing I would say though is do change the hydraulic filter every 200 or so hours and use the heavy metal guage filter rather than the cheaper paper one. The lighter filter is okay for the smaller tractors but not an 885, but you probably know that anyway.

I didn't know that, so thanks!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
