Caseih xl sunroof hinge repair

This far too heavy sunroof with seized hinges has done the fairly common thing of snapping out the pice of roof holding the hinge . Now faced with a headlining kit discoloured due to water ingress and a broken out anchor point in roof. Halfway through a full refurbishment on my late model Caseih 956 . Looking for tips on the best material to be used in association with material used in XL cab tops. Looks like fibre glass material of some sort. If the designing team allowed for stainless steel hinges and perhaps a slightly lighter sun roof day one then most of the xl cabs would have survived with a perfect headlining upholstery. TIA

Most Case/IH XL sunroofs around here were screwed down and siliconed over until water tight as they were badly designed and seals were very poor quality and better sealed down for good.

First step is to make bigger plates to screw the hinges to, the standard ones will put too much pressure on the repair. If I remember correctly I just used a glass fibre repair kit on our 844, although it was just cracked.

Only ever had one early XL but, IIRR, they are fed out of the internal gutter and down the main pillar behind the cladding. Clear plastic tube quite small dia which blocked very quickly with debris and dust.
On a similar note we had a new mark 2 Fiesta in 89 where the sunroof leaked. When the Ford person eventually admitted a problem it was the ducts were only fitted at the rear of the sunroof. The first suggestion was to park the other way around on a hill!

Meant to add that a likely source of water ingress on later cab could be the badly designed air vents. I have a headlining with a small water mark due to that. The whole set up of the vents/filter was poor.

First generation flat top fibreglass sunroofs were a disaster relying on the drainage holes in each corner so i sealed mine up. Theres plenty of ventilation when the side windows are open anyways

Your very right about the stupid amount of weight in the sunroof. Why have a fibreglass roof with a masive slab of steel as a sunroof!! The little gas struts have to have good pressure in them to hold the dam thing open in a bumpy field!!

Trying to work the sunroof drain tubes out on an early Y reg IH XL885 cab, got the tubes at the top & behind the cab pillar lining , Can anyone tell me where they empty on the bottom end ( Have spent some time in the top of the cab ) & thought it may be easier to ask for you folks's advice on the bottom end ?

The drain tubes come out behind the black plastic side panels behind the door , where they are fitted at the top there is a 90 bend, people trying to unblock from the top often poke a hole in the tube or push it off the fitting , beat use air line and blow back from behind side panels
