Not many carry cash these days.
Had a young lad(16) helping me at lambing this year a bit of a tear away so his dad sent him to me to work the bad behaviour out of him and keep him away from his mates, anyway he turned out to be a grafter and a really good help, so i offered him some a couple of hundered quid cash at he end of his stint. He said thanks very much but can you put it in my bank nobody uses cash anymore. When i was 16 if someone handed me that much i would have snatched there hand off. Nothing better than having folding money in your pocket as a young lad. Apparently not anymore.

I really don't care, I pay my taxes, What I'm seeing and posting about here is how local businesses are reacting to being taxed highly and I am bright enough to see that its not going to collect more cash for public services, it's going to take less

Like these local businesses I'm perfectly happy to pay tax at reasonable levels but when it becomes unreasonable and other options exits don't be surprised to see people taking those options, as I said tax avoidance clearly isn't just for the Uber wealthy off shoring etc as perceived .......... it's something the local chippy is also doing with a wad of 20's !

I have posted before, there have been multiple studies done that model a flat rate tax of circa 20% for everyone and on everything collects more total tax that "progressive taxation" policy
You are very naive if you think this is a reaction to the current obscene tax take, ime there have always been those who do not pay what the law imposes, many very wealthy folks like the folding stuff as much as the trades people. There are many ways of avoiding and evading tax but taking cash is not always a good indicator of tax evasion.

Just picked up a Thai take-away ......... cash only !

Chip shop a week or so ago ......... cash only !

Local pub ........ cash only !

This is why increasing taxes doesn’t work @ollie989898 ! its not just billionaires and tech giant with clever accounts planning that reduces the exchequer’s income
Local chinese was at the same till one day the local show off went in just after opening time and ordered a takeaway when it came to paying for it he took out a 500 euro note saying he had nothing smaller on him .....
Chinese couldnt change the note and even though flash harrry offered a wallet full of cards without a card reader .....
Fuccker ended up with a takeaway on an iou :joyful: :joyful:

No it isn't.

Buying a car once,

' how you going to pay for'

'give you a cheque as usual'

'can't do that now, been stung with them'

'I'll go the bank and give it you in pound notes'

'Can't do that either, £500 is the limit for cash'

Ended up having to ring the bank and pay by card, I was at the point of telling him to stick the car where the sun doesn't shine, when he told me wherever I went it would be the same story.

I know they do..... Times are always hard at Chinese Gardens depending what books your looking at.... Meanwhile in Beijing they are on Chinese Forums thinking they are trendsetters and everyone else has it wrong.... Showing off.

You won't buy a car with cash nor a house. There are laws against money laundering for precisely this kind of thing.

just pure confidence then that so many places seem to have lost their card machine’s since the autumn statement and tax rises against a backdrop of much higher bussiness operating costs 🤣🤣🤣
