Cattle tb test

Utter madness that farms in 4 yearly testing areas don't have to test ALL stock.
I can only comment on his situation. His tb4 test was scheduled for October but was told by his vet he doesn't need to do anything as he doesn't keep any for breeding. All irrelevant really as he is about to be put into a tb1. Common local knowledge as to who will be put into a tb1 so most are selling now before they get the letter

Not good. Are they selling because of the extra work(testing) or because of the potential tb in thier herds. I know that sounds harsh, it's not meant to be.

These would normally be sold in spring but what with straw price and potential of being shut down with tb think it's just a bit of a kick to palm some off.

Don't worry certainly didn't come across as harsh

As above, all cattle regardless of age have to be post movement tested 60-120 days after arriving on a TB4 holding from TB1 areas. They also cannot be moved except to slaughter during that time.

Seems to work tho?

But when it goes wrong and a herd gets a TB outbreak the numbers lost are normally very high so no it isn't working.

Also if you only test breeding stock or stock intended for breeding in a TB4 then what happens if you get a heifer calving down accidently for example that has never been tested?

We were tb4 and never tested. All bought in stores sold fat. Testing done at slaughter so effectively every 2 weeks. That's how they found our case. Now LFU so no testing at all. All tb1 cattle were being post movement tested before.
