CCTV System

I would like to install a system on the farm. Only a couple cameras but would want the footage saved onto a hard-drive that I can watch back later.

Any recommendations on who to talk to?

The Cloud is a good idea.....but you end up paying out quite a bit to have lots of small cloud accounts for different things. Much cheaper to DIY but not quite the same “value”.

Look up agricamera, they do build your own systems, they do a hard drive for not a lot of money from what I saw, I’ve one of their systems for the cows, no recording just looking on phone. Very easy to use.

Arlo do a great wifi system, dead easy to DIY fit.
3 camera system ( cloud storage/ phone viewable/alerts etc) £300 right now on amazon. Check reviews to see if it will do what you want?

Note: I don't work for amazon its just that I've just bought one of these systems lol

All this cloud stuff is great but if you have crap broadband like us then it's a no go.

If you have good Internet then the hassle of recorders and backing up is sorted for you, but it doesn't suit everyone.

If you are recording stuff in case of crime, number plates, faces, etc then the camera quality needs to be very good and the recording at high quality too which can ramp up costs quite a bit.
With CCTV it seems that quality is definitely related to cost, more quality, more £££

I agree with the above. One major problem with cloud that I have witnessed is thieves cutting phone lines to properties before raiding. Too costly also imo.

Decent cameras use space. Anyhow, an NVR should be located where it can’t be stolen. If you don’t want an NVR, stick to cameras that take a memory card.

What’s an NVR?

Hmm. I am told the more common experience is thieves removing your hard drive and the evidence with it ...................... If it's gone to the Cloud it's too late and the interface unit often contains a buffer of imaging . But what do I know

We installed one ourselves with a Swann kit from maplins. Depends what you want the cameras for. Ours has the camera drive next to the modem then fed some wires though into the calving boxes to see if calves had sucked and onto the yard to see who's about. The the on radio signal into the calving pen are poor so going to dig a trench and run a cable. Had 8 cameras and spent £400 ish and some labour
