Centerless Auger help

We've had a move around of our feed systems and I've replaced a whole length of centerless auger. I ordered extra length as I wasn't sure on the final location of the feed bin. My question is, at what length should the actual auger be? Should it be stretched out a bit so as that its under constant tension?
Any help is much appreciated.

Don't stretch it, if you have a problem it will be difficult to get to the end if it pulls itself back into the pipe. Just push it in, connect to the motor, then pull it back at the bin end and let it settle to its own length, then cut at the end of the pipe. Pull it out a bit and put the bearing arbour on.

You need to stetch it a little, put mole grips on the spiral, put the bearing on then release. If there's too much play in the spiral it'll cut through the pipe. I found that one out the hard way when my biomass cabin filled itself up with pellet.

Some of mine are 20 years old, not had one wear through yet. They are collinson ones though 🤣 those red pipes seem really tough. Also finisher pellets not wood chip.

Also if for what ever reason you have to weld an extension to the spiral, only overlap it by the bare minimum for the weld to hold, as by reducing the gap in the spiral you have created a blockage and it will rapidly come to a halt. Lesson learnt!!
