Stick with oil, more electric cars = cheaper oil, unless you want to go Biomass and burn your own wood/rubbish.
Grant Vortex inside boiler - BUT - whichever one you get, have it serviced every year.Grant is a very good make.
Ground heat source here for 4 years, keeps the old farm house warm but quite expensive to run, probably works out the same as oil in cost to run but house much warmer.Looking at upgrading our central heating boiler at the moment its oil and is very good.

So why replace it?at the moment its oil and is very good.
Much the same as ground heat source, cost me approx 22 k and get 30 back over 7 years, seemed daft not to at the time. Before you replace it, I would advise looking into domestic Biomass, even if you rule it out. A wood pellet boiler is every bit as good as an oil boiler, but you get a quarterly payment for 7 years for being so 'green'.
A decent boiler costs a lot more than a modern oil boiler, but the RHI payments will more than pay for it. My payment will cover the cost of the original boiler, it's replacement (because I tried to buy the cheapest at the start), all the fuel used in that 7 years, and a bit of profit on top. My thinking is that, at the end of the 7 years, it will all be paid for and I will have had free heat in that time. I can choose then whether to keep going with pellets (no cheaper than oil, despite what the installers tell you), or fit an oil boiler then. Hopefully, there will be a domestic sized boiler that can burn home grown grain by then....
Rates might have dropped slightly now, but still worth considering if you need to replace it anyway.

Why do you think electric cars will make for cheaper oil?
Just putting it out for debate, not yanking your chain
Just looking at the moment as it was put in 2005 and nothing last for everSo why replace it?
If your boiler is more than 15 years old ,change it ,you will use half the amount fuel.no brainer

It’s not electric cars (there are not enough currently on the road to really noticeably dint total oilLess oil being used, but plenty left in the ground = glut = cheap... we are sort of there now.
My boiler is 30 years old. Runs a max of 27 radiators in a big barn conversion. 2300 litres of kerosene lasts 18 months. Why would I change it?
