I have a new to me chafer e series sprayer with a centrifugal pump.
The previous owner told me he didn’t put antifreeze in it over the winter and just drained all the water out the pump. Would this be correct or am I better to put some antifreeze through it?
TIA

There are lots of low points in the plumbing and valves that won't drain out properly. I used liquid fertiliser as antifreeze but TBH I've never heard of any problems with draining the system down.

Centrifugal pumps can be a pain to prime but with a decent head of water should be easy enough to do when you next want to use it. Just leave the pump off for a minute to let the incoming water push the air out. My Sentry had a 8mm pipe as an air bleed on top of the pump housing which returned the liquid to the tank which helped a lot. You may need to switch the pressure side to agitate or the induction bowl to get the air out. Avoid running the pump dry for long as it knackers the seals.

Thanks for all advice. Seem to be able to drain spray lines and filters quite well as there are lots drain plugs. Another question is about the steering axle. It doesn’t seem track very well when turning on headlands. It’s on 16.9 r38 tyres so maybe that’s as tight as it will turn. Or should I adjust the delay on the steering ?

Chafer's fitters will be able to advise you on the steering settings. They are very good at backup. Despite wide track width settings (80") on my old one we couldn't get enough lock to follow the tractor perfectly on tight turns. It was a long sprayer and a short wheelbase tractor so that was never going to happen. The lock stops are adjustable. You can change the restrictors on the steering ram pipes to alter the speed of the response.
