Cheap welders.

My mig finally died the other day and I’ll be needing a new one. Been looking and seen all sorts of options. Looking for single phase and about 200-250amp. Seen loads of cheaper inverters but never used one. I have used big 3 phase ones and cheap older ones. Obviously I’d love a big fancy one but don’t wanna break the bank for general farm welding. Any advice on what ones to be avoided or good ones.

What’s the budget? Bought a 240amp oxford mig just before lockdown for £750 all in, torch, tips, gas etc. Nice simple bit of kit but packs a punch and has decent duty cycles compared to other brands and inverter types

Have a look at fastarc Near Derby , got a 500 amp esab from him around 4 years ago , all its had is new feed rollers , was £450 old but in good order
At that amp it will be 3 phase. Wish I had 3 phase at our workshop. But I’ll take a look. Thanks.

don’t really have a budget in mind.Been looking and seen some nice miller, Kempi, esab machines for £750-£1200 but keep seeing others on eBay with similar spec for about £300. I have never used the £300 machines but wondering if anyone has. Are you just paying for the name and bells and whistles you don’t really need for welding cracks in machines or General farm welding. I have a Good 450amp arc for heavy stuff and don’t know if spending 3x the money on a brand name is worth it?

I am thinking about buying new mig but I will be going to welding supplies
Direct as I know I will get good advice
Failing that there is a company somewhere down south that makes welders to order and are covered by
3 year warranty but I don't know name
I believe welders are like tractors in recent years.... smaller machines give as much power as bigger machines

Bought a little 200 amp mig from rally design as a spare if one of our big ones went down. Brilliant machine. On every day at 160amp welding brackets we make from 4mm plate. £200 plus vat I believe. As a spare it’s brilliant. It’s not a patch on our migatronics or warrior but doesn’t have the price tag either.

Just bought one of these, with a limited power supply atm. I needed something a little more portable to get anywhere near the machine. So far so good does stick as well as mig, stick and earth wires a little short and 5kg wire a bit dearer but does the job with a good duty cycle.
