I've had this discussion with Hummingbird, the drone firm I use for my osr. Their Holy Grail is pre symptomatic disease detection and targeted spraying. Unfortunately the camera technology is just not there yet to achieve this. It's easier for rusts but not latent septoria. Algorithms and risk prediction tools are just that, tools in the toolbox. You still need a human brain to interpret the results and make a decision at the moment.

I agree 100%

BASIS students spend as much time learning about cultural controls as they do about chemical ones. That was the case when I did the course with @Woodlander in 2007. I expect the non chemical solutions are an even greater part of the syllabus now.

You're right @Brisel Cultural controls have always been a big part of the course, and I would say we have been giving even greater emphasis to this over the past 2-3 years now. Every session I deliver on a BASIS course I'll make reference to IPM and cultural controls and empahsise its increasing importance. I remember earlier this year a comment, 'we did this yesterday with ......' and my reply was basically 'AND?....... it really is this important.' One of my favourite sayings - 'Any good BASIS exam answer starts with the non-chemcial control options!'

Our basis course had a big leaning towards cultural control, icm,ipm and Ifm. The chem can was/is the last resort.

Any scenario we were given would always be cultural control first and foremost, the examiners all wanted that sort of answers in the vivas and would keep digging if you didn't satisfy them and reached for the can too soon.

Levy and a % of membership cost should be added to buying group prices when you compare really

I've already recovered my membership cost since Jan 1st 2019 in a rebate twice the size of the fee. Total group costs last year was 0.056% net of all fees, levies & rebates. I'd sooner have the best price first time but that's the way it seems to work. What are you paying for Proline Clive?

My proline cost is zero - I’m not spraying my OSR. Fungicides don’t provide MOIC in my experience and trials over the last 4 years here and forecast models are low risk here

Agronomist was looking at osr his week and commented how good it looks compared to crops that have had multiple sprays already

Osr cost to date is sub £300/ha and gate is shut until harvest

Budget yield is 4t and I’ve not ripped up any

Do you not use Proline at all? Not even a cheap earwash in wheat destined for milling?

I'll try the "quote me" section of FMP. Edit: Only Aviator in there. Is this something you can price me @Chris F ? PM if you'd prefer & I won't comment about the result in here. Unless it's dearer :p

The most stable and protected triazole price you will find. How do they manage to keep it so tight? When you see the spread on quotes for other chemicals it really makes me think that there is some strong price control on this product.
I believe prothioconazole is off patent on 30th April. Great birthday present for me. Won't be too long before generics become available, hopefully bringing the price down.
