They seem to be the "cross" of the moment - wonder if they`ll still be so hot in a few years time. Time will tell.....
I have been producing them for the last 12 years ,one of my buyers has been with me from the start ,bought my first draw this year and they keep them for ewes, go to the texel tup and they regularly top the live trade with the lambs. The other thing that is rarely mentioned is that the wedder lambs are a very saleable commodity.

Where have you been last 8 weeks?🤣🤣🤣

Might be 1 or 2 threads on this🙄🙄🙄
Hadn’t even noticed this either, surely the result is a big mule?
I’ve got 25 Cheviots this year to make up a lorry. They are BIG! not particularly excited to see the resulting lambs as they could be to big?

there’s Cheviots and Cheviots (and Cheviots and Cheviots and Cheviots) and that’s without the other Cheviots or the foreign Cheviots.

Lambing Cheviots to a Texel on a hill ain’t a lot of fun.
True, but if its that bad,why not just have the Cheviots pure. The texel x wedder lambs will be miles better than cheviot mule wedders.
Well, it`s a bit like breeding swales pure!! A good mule gimmer lamb and certainly at present a good cheviot mule gimmer lamb will make a vast difference to the bottom line.
I would think a cheviot mule ewe would be more prolific than a texel x cheviot too.

I have both and have found no difference in prolificacy.Probably the Tex x Cheviot are slightly ahead but the lambs are much better quality.
