China 'punishing' Australia

There seems to be an unofficial, but still very real, sanctioning against Australian goods by the Chinese authorities. I write 'unofficial' because the Chinese dictatorship (the CCP) have not openly stated that the sanctions are happening, but a Chinese state-controlled newspaper - not that there are any which aren't - has written of Australian goods being targeted. The Australian Gov't are being very diplomatic in playing any problems down, but the general feeling seems to be that the Chinese dictatorship resents Australian criticism of their handling of CV-19. I'll be grateful if any of our friends in Oz will let us know the gen' about this down there, and any more on the matter.

Following the US election, I think that the world will find China, under its dictatorship, far less friendly than hitherto. Anyone thinking it is benign is deluding himself, it will keep pushing in every way it can to undermine the democracies.

You’re not alone.

Can’t really blame the Chinese government for thinking the same back then, can we? Given the way that Donald Trump talked about them too, it’s a testament to the cool heads of the Chinese leadership that things haven’t escalated.
Or the cool heads of the rest of the world for not responding (as far as we know) to all the cyber attacks coming from china or russia

I’m not sure I’d ever use the word “cool head” to describe the 45th president.

I said other world leaders, there are others apart from the USA
You might have made a conscious decision but unconsciously you are probably
buying goods with Chinese inputs most of the time.
Of course that is true but anything made in China is out, trying to buy uk made stuff as much as possible

I have made a conscious decision not to buy any chinese made stuff
A good start...

Not easy to do. Almost every piece of technology has a Chinese component and very often, but not always, it is that component that fails. Printed circuit boards are a prime example.
Quite right, but we have to start somewhere.

I always buy British as a first preference, then look to the products and produce of our kinsmen overseas, and then to those of our friends, wherever they are in the world.

China has made a deliberate policy to try to get its components everywhere, with a view to making itself indispensable. It isn't and they more we support other countries that can compete with it in terms of cost, e.g. Vietnam, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc., and - maybe - some in Africa, the better for us, for them and for the World as a whole.

Absolutely right in your analysis. It is almost akin to spreading a virus. We and our products are being undermined. We should support Asian democracies in their attempts to stave off the takeover and show a strong preference for their products which are generally vastly superior to anything that China produces.
