Chopped Hay

Hi,

I have a 28 year old horse who is struggling to eat hay now. What I'm looking for is a farmer in North Yorkshire (near Guisborough) who has a machine to chop the hay down into more manageable lengths as using a small garden shredder is too time consuming!!

Find a local baling contractor with a silage chopper on their baler and ask them to chop some hay for you

Or buy a garden shredder and do it yourself

I have a garden shredder but it's takes way too long unfortunately.

I'll have to try find contacts of local farmers.

My friend bought a garden wood chipper for £80 from screwfix that might work. We used it to mill grain for pigs

Use a chaff cutter, loads rotting in barns

Didn't think of this, had a quick search online and they seem few and far between. I will keep an eye out.

I have a small square bale chopper that could probably work for you if it's small squares you're using

The apprentice here can definitely confirm they will chop hay. Might not like it but it will do it [emoji23] edit mine is a different chopper to yours tho
