Christmas and new year

If you value them, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Or a cash gift or hamper on Christmas Day morning. It depends on what your staff require surely? If they are tight for money a bit of cash might be better for them, if they are wanting more appreciation some thought into a small hamper may mean a whole lot more to them and pay dividends long term

If they are self employed, they set their own rate. If they are not charging extra, then give a bonus for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day. But I would have thought the regular milker would work at least some of these?

As said they are self employed they technically set there own hours and pay. It is up to you to agree or not.
If they wish to request double time for the whole fortnight it is up to you to agree or not. If you dont agree they dont have to turn up.

Last year I charged time and a half for Boxing Day noon milking. But it was my regular milking. If it was extra cover I think I would have charged double time.

Oooh, that means there is a Christmas day noon milking.
That's a rough one. My milker will just be opening his second bottle of prosecco at that time I expect.

With Christmas and new year fast approaching
Which days would you expect to pay double time to a self employed relief milker?

If they're self employed I guess they get to decide where they want to milk over Christmas and what they want to charge. You just pay the invoice.
Or are they a "self employed" but technically employed worker that only works for you?

When I did it I didn't charge any extra for public holidays but of course I only booked in the days I wanted to work (it was usually all of them though) that's the whole point of being self employed.

2 hours Christmas morning would be £60 cash in their hand plus a slab of beer.

Worth every penny to see kids opening presents.

Edit-they haven't got any kids before I get chastised

My kids don’t open presents till we’re in for breakfast, was the rule when I was a kid so kept on with it,also encourages them to help you get done.
