Hi all

I'm back.....just bought a claas jaguar 800 self propelled chopper and have a problem........ the problem I have is the metal detector will not detect metal, the pick up reverses as it should then press the button to forward all works fine dog clutch working. Is this electrical or is the metal detector gone?

Any ideas asap would be much appreciated.

Cheers

there is a figure of 8 sort of thing on feed roller shaft, its a magnet that must make the electric reed switch make contact for all to work all ok, there is like a small bearing in it IIRC, if not resistance it will not reset, try looking at that, and also the electric plug from feed roller housing to main frame Cannot remember which side its on now

That plug is on the left hand side
What's puzzling me is its all working but no detection ! A haha
Is there any way of checking the magnetic
Is there any voltage reading at the 7 pin plug
Or is the module away?

are the pawls on the dog clutch ok and adjusted properly also maybe worth a look at the solenoid they can sometimes give trouble

it detects in the back smooth bottom feed roller, and needs to be on top of it to detect,

might be wrong, but think you can try and test it without the engine running, you need to go through the motions with out engine running and also turn the figure of 8 thing to its place, red light in cab should go out, then you can poke a screwdriver or the like to see if electric dog goes in to stop on feed roller drive

But the m/d cable comes out or the front lower spiked roller
If you push the fingers up to the dog clutch all catch stop drive
Your figure of 8 nylon bushing all works OK goes back and forth freely when forward/reversing

Don't worry
I thought I was the dog bo*licks when I got it last week!
Your right it's old technology
Not many people working on them now
Every little bit of info makes a result
They still have a massive following down here.. Riverlea tractors sold hundreds of them.

Never had a 800 , but will be the same as on a 690, how close are the fingers to the dog clutch as they all most want to touch it, I would have thought if it was not working then the feed roller would not drive forward, some one has not turned the screw on the hyd valve round so it drives all the time ?

Just my tuppence worth, on the 690 and 695 there was a metal detector control module inside the cab dash panel , under where the header pressure gauge is. There was a series of LEDs on the top of the module to indicate it's status. The module was just a plug in unit and could be swapped with a known good one.

Modules on 840 860 etc look the same but won't work.

There was a md test kit supplied by Claas , a plug in unit to the MD tray. There were different testers depending on how many coils in the MD tray/ age /model of the machine.

That's all i recall, didn't work on them myself but used to order the parts...
