Thats another thing ours had wrong with it. The alternator used to go hot and charge at something like 15volts iirc. It fried the dash and eventually caused a fire in the wiring.
Which is exactly what ours did! I was ploughing with it at the time, l quickly covered the burning alternator with damp soil to put it out. ( It's a good job l was not baling with it!). In hindsight I should have done what somebody said on this forum about an MF combine that caught fire. The driver simply walked back until he reached a safe distance and then watched it burn!

Mate tells a story of his fast track, towing trailer on road , smoke , flames , engine area , calmly unhitch trailer, phoned son to confirm , sat back , phone firebrigade once he'd emptied butty box and flask .
Not much left.
Paid out .
Insurance wouldnt pay for the fire in ours because dad put the fire out straight away and disconnected the battery. Because it didnt go any further than the wiring it was deemed wear and tear and not something they would pay on. So he did the right thing and got f**ked over by the insurance. Lots of people told him after he should have let it go to at least do some damage to the paint or plastics and they would pay for rhe lot even the whole tractor if you let the whole thing go. But not a wiring loom  We dont insure with them anymore. barstewards

They won't pay for the thing that causes the fire, only the damage the fire causes to other parts. If you'd let it do more damage before putting it out you'd still have had to pay for a wiring loom.

A guy I knew was chatting to a builder on site when all of a sudden A JCB digger just a few yards from them burst into flames! Several of the lads there started hurling bucketfuls of water at it, until their gaffer shouted "Don't chuck bloody water at it lads , get some diesel!"

f**king joke when they would pay for a whole tractor if you let it go.
A new wiring loom was £1200 (or something ridiculous like that) so dad got his mate to cut the loom and join it back together. Works as well as it did before and its not been on fire since:unsure:

When our th62 caught fire earlier this year I rang nfu next day they gave me a number for call centre and they kept asking what started the fire as if it's electrical they deduct £400 from the claim.i said I don't know so they kept saying do you think it was I need to put something down so I said probably dust and straw.when the asesor came out he never asked cause and agreed to pay

You should have said a flame started the fire...
