Claydon front disc

Has anybody used the front disc in place of the ripper tine on their Claydon Hybrid, if so how did you find it worked, and did you use a narrower A Share for less disturbance?

Works tremendous cutting thru cover crops, only used them with normal 7 inch share

That's good to hear, how tall were your cover crops when you drilled into them, were they desiccated or still growing?

They were sprayed off about a fortnight prior to drilling, possibly 3 ft high

The Claydon is the best of the British built strip drills in my opinion .

I think I am right in saying that the new T4/4.8m drill will offer the option to run a shouldered cutting ring in front of the breaker tine, allowing more soil movement after cutting the trash.This should help when more tilth is needed?

Rather like a Mzuri and/or Sumo then? Good idea anyway, will help with drilling into grass which we intend to do in our strip till rotation.

The Spring on those seeding tines looks very wimpy for the fact that there is no longer an aggressive tine running ahead of it opening the soil.

I suppose the discs would open a slith for the points, similar to the Sim Tec?
After running a Seed Hawk for many years I don't want to leave the tines but would want a disc in front for less disturbance.

Dale drill have the frontdisc, have you seen it ?
Should be good on Seed Hawk also!

They are stronger than you think, the leading tine runs in between those two so does nothing to help them penetrate anyway.
