Was going to turn lambs in to a field of rape in a fortnight. They were given ovivac p plus end of may and thought they better have a booster.Would Bravoxin or Covexin do the same job?

It would boost their clostridial cover, but not the pasteurella.

Presumably they had both Ovivac P+ jabs, not just the priming dose? If they only had one then it would be questionable whether a dose of anything now would be any more than a primer for a new course (that’s what the vaccine companies will tell you anyway).

Bravoxin 10.................30p/dose
Ovivac P Plus..........69p/dose.

So about 40p/hd to cover 'em for Pasturella.

Isn’t it the pasteurella cover that supposedly doesn’t last long, while the clostridial cover does? P is always given as the reason why a booster dose in the Autumn is sometimes advised.

After having several outbreaks of Pasteurella in vaccinated stock, I don’t have a lot of faith in the cover these days, given the ever increasing expense of it.
It depends on how much faith you have in the product I guess, and your attitude to insurance cover?

100 lambs @70p = £70 plus your time, so if you're confident in it's efficacy you only need to save one death to break even.

Suggest you do half of 'em and report back here with the death toll (or lack of it) in the fullness of time

Our vet did a lot of trial work on it.said there didn't seem too much evidence to him that the vaccine works.

I haven't vaccinated mature ewes in years. No losses, however if I'm any bit late giving the 2 jabs to the lambs, they'd be dying all over the place at this time of year. Only conclusion I can figure is it attacks the young stock, but older stock have built up immunity to whatever strain attacks my land.

I don't vaccinate our ewes for their protection but to hopefully protect the lambs that they are carrying until they're old enough to be vaccinated themselves.
