Clutch bolts for MF35x - Grade 5 OK? Or stronger needed?

Hi!

We're replacing the clutch on my MF35x. The old clutch bolts, that attach the clutch to the flywheel are stretched so we want to put new ones in.

We have found new bolts (1.5" 5/16"UNC) - and they have three notches, which I understand means Grade 5 - Standard grade steel. It's not clear what the bolts we took out were.

Do people think the grade 5 bolts will be strong enough, or should we try to find grade 8?

Cheers
Joe

Do you mean 3 line's on head if so it denote's it's an imperial bolt, metric one's are stamped with grade, ie; 8.8,10.9,12.5 so on..

Ah.... but the 3 lines also denote the imp' bolt is grade 5 steel, whereas 6 lines means grade 8 in imperial terms. After a look on Google,it would seem that grade 5 is actually near enough the equivalent to metric 8.8,so the op's new bolts should be ok....

Thank you all!

We used the 3 line ones in the end because getting 6 line ones was not easy and would have put a significant delay on proceedings.

Very pleased to hear from Agrimax that the imperial grade 5s are roughly equivalent to the metric grade 8.8s

Cheers all
Joe
