Combi Clamp Weigh kit

Thinking about using our combi clamp for weighing by buying the weight kit add-on
Any review's and pro's and con's for using the camp as a weigher?
WHat load bars work best?

I've found them not accurate enough. Get an alloy weigh crate instead.
Interested to read this as we have the same problem. Weight varies by 1-2kg depending on where I stand on the scales and have to zero them much more often than I’d like. I keep meaning to strip it all down and rebuild it in the hope of better accuracy. Bluetooth link to the stock recorder is great though.

Get on alright with ours - although you need to make sure you stand in the same place on the platform and make sure you keep an eye on the zero.

Ours has Tru-Test weigh bars and weigh head. @Allied Weighing might be able to advise you on what else is available.

If @HillFarmer321 searched the forum they’d see a fair few of us arnt happy with how ours weigh. Seriously considering a weighcrate instead - weight is only a guide though and feeling a lamb is far more important than weight... this year picked 1200 lambs by guessing and only 50 by weight as that’s the only amount it’s been reliable for.

Anyone using the clamp with eziweigh 7?
Got 1 borrowed and find it very slow compared to my old gallagher weigh head. The gallagher isn't Bluetooth so looking to upgrade.
The Ezi7 won't zero between sheep unless you hold the next 1 back, which really mucks up flow rates. There's no reweigh button unless I'm mistaken?
Tbf the gallagher was the same but you could leave it on manual and if not recording could just see a moving weight as they come through for a guide.

Got the 7 here, just put my hand out to stop the next lamb as rule but if the weight sticks just press ‘esc’ (I think it is or the back button). It’s actually quicker to press that every time if you’re in a rush and want to record them all. Just don’t press zero on accident with a lamb on:banghead:

Ah thanks that's what I was looking for.
Will try next time?

What size/spec of weigh bars does the combo clamp take? I’m deciding whether or not to get the combi clamp with weigh kit - it’d be a big plus if I could pull the weigh bars out and put them under a platform to weigh cattle on inside the crush race. Sorry to bother people but I can’t find it specified anywhere

Mp800’s mine have but they’ve failed so now their out of the way. 1 day I might get them refurbished with @Allied Weighing

Get a set from @Allied Weighing , rather than Trutest. They will be close to a third of the price and do the exact same job!

I’ve been unhappy with the accuracy on my weighing setup until recently. The CombiClamp unit has too much movement on the bars I think, and I couldn’t see how I could bolt it down securely. Last week I took a bit of the galv off with an angle grinder, then ran a bit of weld between the (galv steel) bars and the CombiClamp frame. It now sits rigidly on the way bars with no play at all, and weighs perfectly, every time. Job sorted.👍

I like your thinking, however I think I’ll have to accept a little inaccuracy - reason being, I intend to use the weigh bars for other jobs too - ie to set under my portable cattle crush and weigh stores and beef cattle. Is there any reason that this wouldn’t work, having not seen a combo clamp weigh farms in the flesh before.?

You could certainly use the same weigh bars and head unit under a crush (I weighed a few bales with mine before putting under the CombiClamp). You need to fix the Clamp rigidly to the bars somehow, in order to get an accurate weight ime. I couldn’t see a way to bolt them on easily, or I would of.

My weigh bars from Allied Weighing were a little over £300 for the pair (as opposed to £900+ from Trutest!), so a second set of bars under the crush would certainly be an easier option.

You will need an extortionately priced frame to go under the CombiClamp, to mount the bars on, and to isolate the ramps from the clamp Unit.

I use a G clamps either side to ‘bolt’ the clamp to the frame. The problem I had was one clamp is on a slight slope and would slide out from the frame slightly throwing the zero but the clamps stop all movement.
I did have a problem with the bars this year after about 4 or 5 years but sent them to allied weighing for repair as tru test didn’t even pick up the phone or reply to messages.
I’d agree with the above, get them through allied weighing, great to deal with and sensibly priced.

Bolt the frame of the combi clamp onto the weigh cells, if it doesn’t have the holes in the combi clamp to bolt it on then make angle iron/steel bars across with holes so you can bolt it on to stop inaccuracies, obviously it will then need unbolting and lifting the combi clamp off the weigh cells to take them out which unless there’s 3-4 of you you don’t want to be doing too often as their seriously heavy!
