Combinables Price Tracker

Any updates on Ukraine/Black Sea/Russia.
Initial indications were they like us had a late spring but went from -20C to +20C.
I have been going there for 6 years May/June and have never seen rain except for this year. They have high pavements to stop the water getting in the shops/pubs.
On that note I don't think things by their standards looked too bad other than piles of rotting hay (welcome to a Scottish haymaking summer boys).
I didn't travel far by air in daylight so when in an area where small fields are square miles I might have missed the disasters. Anybody there to comment?

We haven't normally started yet , presumably this has been ordered some time .
Some yes, a lot very recently, a bit like the straw job, everyone panicked and sought cover, if UK farmers weren't prepared to sell then buy something elsewhere, to cover your self, several on here were doing it buying maize instead of wheat.

Ukraine have put a limit on exports this year
Russia who knows

The question is which side of 13 million tonnes has the U.K. produced and will the ethanol plant use wheat
If they shut then we have an extra million tonnes of wheat but the livestock industry will need to replace the ddg the ethanol plant produces some of that will be soya some wheat or maize or barley
What ever we still need to import before next harvest
The milling industry will also use more U.K. wheat as hagburgs are mostly 300 plus and wheat is higher protein premiums may be low but imported will cost more than U.K. wheat

What's the opinion? Sell some 2019 wheat at a sell order of £170/t ex farm (£177 LIFFE)? Is that achievable??

to day usa and china talking about talks gives futures a boost

what ever the Chinese need to import
but they do not like paying top prices so play the markets

if the chinese and the usa make friends or fall out it does not produce any more grain the weather and the area planted decided that

when future went to the mid 190s they were over bought when they fell back to low 180s they were over sold this shakes out the weaker /movement required holders

all the talk is imports but where from maize is not harvested feed wheat is short usually feed wheat is used until later because farmers need space and cash but space is not an issue and money can be borrowed

dorset price is lower than more northern areas

is the possible 2019 crop price between 140 and 220
below 160 ethanol comes on line but only 60% of their consumption is net usage
for £200 plus price the world harvest below last 5 year average would be needed and Brexit happening uk under 14 million tonnes
a 14 million plus harvest would also open ethanol usage up

A sell order is to book an agreed tonnage when the desired price is reached. I’ve done plenty of those in the past when I’m too busy on field work to watch the markets.

Seen plenty of prices not achieved when the market gets within £2 then drops like a stone!

Hold on. Your one of the biggest contributors on here. So I’m sure your looking at the markets aswell.

Seems to have regained its losses today . My uneducated view is that the fundamentals on the upside far out way the downside so continued downward pressure on prices couldn’t be sustained ( do I sound like I know what I’m talking about ? )

My 2p worth is that at £190ish or so for feed wheat, there is more downside potential than upside.
There will be opportunity though:)

The markets were complaining last year that flat markets provided little scope for making any money - current volatility is providing plenty of scope for making, or losing, a small fortune.
Be careful who you trade with, those with the biggest prices may not have the deepest pockets...

Wise words! Anyone’s guess what next. One thing is for sure as little England continues it’s slide toward failed state status the pound will continue to lose value. Just ask JRM.

I know nothing with regard to prices of wheat but I do understand the scriptures and we most certainly are living once more in biblical times!! I expect much worse planting, growing and harvesting conditions everywhere across the globe going forward from here and if I were a farmer with wheat left to sell I would most certainly hold it well into next year if I were able to.
