The City thinks that May will delay the exit date in the hope of getting a deal. Every other EU member has to ratify the delay but she could rescind the Article 50 notice without this. That’s what lifted the £ since the defeat of the deal vote in the Commons.

Brexit knackering the livestock boys and a huge amount of barley in the ground. The uk also exports a big chunk of feed barley. The pound strengthening.

I don't follow your logic. If we are proper out ( I don't think we will be in March by the way) then the pound will probably be weak for a good few months. Can't imagine more winter barley than normal?

Twice in the last 3 seasons I have allowed myself to be frightened into selling barley forward because of "the huge amount in the ground", "the massive amount of spring barley been planted", "lots of carryover from last year in store", and all the rest.
Both times have cost us quite a lot of money.

Which is why I posed the question and took some cover on a tonne an acre. Last year it was £120 ish June time and the last loads sold spot in July went out at £155+ iirc.

Sub £100 wasn't long ago, whats changed?

Barley is less popular with growers. The feed market has been quite buoyant for a couple of years despite the huge maize stocks. My information says less spring barley going in this spring because of the kind back end and more wheat sown.

Mono gastric (pigs & poultry) feed requires a certain amount of barley, so there’s always a demand for it.
