Did the last oats at £135ex. Bit saddening as they are a nice sample at a cack price but hey ho. That's non contract milling oat growing I suppose.

More upsettingly as the spring barley, which I hate, has paid better!

First time growing milling oats for selling next Nov and following May priced half of them for £153t.
Are you usually better off with a contract or not?

In ten years of oat growing only two times better off on contract. Sometimes good money to be made. However, this year if you were on £10 under wheat futures you'd be £50 a ton better off, so on balance those 8 years smugness have been wiped out. Although I *expect* the huge price difference means those on contract are suffering more claims than I am.

Farming is a risky business, and off contract oats a bit like off contract marrowfat peas. Going forward, I think oversupply is likely to replace some osr tonnage. Hence I'm not growing any. My land needs a break from oats anyway now.

Mine does too. :( Beans and OSR for a while.
