I had a field of SB completely flat this year and had awful trouble on the first couple of rounds bulldozing as I couldn't get the auto height settings right. In the end controlled the header manually and did a good job by sitting on the edge of the seat and reel going like feck!
Very crop/field can be different, that’s why there’s so much adjustment. I don’t think there is such thing as a standard adjustment and you just have to find a setting that works at the time. In a laid crop is usually one adjustment one way and another going back. I very often end up cutting laid crops at a different angle to what that are drilled so as to get better feed but this wouldn’t work in a ctf system.

Still do hear ground height sensors are ok but in difficult conditions I override them and watch pressure gage on the header lift.do they still fit gauges on modern combines ?

I’ve got tracks under a 25ft header and I’d be very, very reluctant to go back to a wheeled machine. Travels so much better and smoother, especially in a wet year!
Nothing at all, plenty of people buy fast cars etc as toys, and if your life is farming then buy the best toy you can afford, but you may be farming to make a profit to buy and pay different things... each to their own
