Combine losses in oilseed rape

I seem to get too many losses in OSR. Seed going over the back. I run a JD T560 with a 20ft cut. Its a 2010 machine so its the one before the cab change and longer sieves.
I was wondering if anyone out there can suggest suitable settings as a starting point for this machine.
Many thanks in advance.

I get the same problem with my Claas Mega 350. If I open the sieves the sample is dirty, I put the wind up and it goes over the back. I open and close the concave and it is the same, I hate combining OSR!

Thank you for your reply, I thought it was just me. One thing I d say is that every adjustment affects some thing else. E.g open the sieves and it reduces the fan pressure, so if you are increasing trash in the sample maybe you need to in crease fan too. I don’t seem to be able to resolve the issues, but I think with OST there is a lot of trash by way of pods etc and with small seed, it takes some sorting out. I suppose the principles of setting are the same as with all crops, but with OSR being such a small seed and the impact of losses being of higher volume it can be a very frustrating time of pratting about trying to set the machine when you really want to just get on.

I open the concave a lot more than in wheat and the drum is set much slower, but I still can't get it right. I thought it was just me!

Have you opened concave all the way and then closed it a bit so you can open it if you bung it? Also drum speed pretty slow? Made more difference to my Osr combining than sieve or wind settings.
Is go with that drum wide open then shut a little to allow for a bung up and drum speed as slow as possible.

I got dad to slow the drum speed right down last year when cutting our rape, He thought I was mad and he reconed he's never combined anything with such a slow drum but it did stop the pods and stalks breaking up which inturn stopped the sieves getting so overloaded.

Rule for most combines I've ever driven is concave fully open (then back off 5mm so you can unblock if needed !) and slow drum speed (sub 400rpm) high losses are usually because of overthrashing overloading the sieves

Does your Deere have a booster bar under the drum ? , we found a W series with one bad for over threshing so removed it for osr.

I do run the drum slow and concave wide, I may try it wider. I tend to star

Yes it does actually. Thanks for the suggestion. There is a rasp one in, there is also a smooth one too. I’ll give that a try.

I found some settings on combine forum for canola, easy to remember, set everything at 7
700 fan 7mm top sieve 7mm bottom.
I found it worked well, rape is heavier for its size than we think, similar bushel to barley but less surface area. Is it being blown out or carried out on the trash?

Hi thanks for that, I think it gets carried out by the trash tbh.
