My agronomist reckons I need to put in a couple of fields of linseed instead of a second wheat on some black fen we have. Is he mad?

So the good one was the DD'd field? looked bloody good in the picsPut a bit of muck on and direct drill it. The stuff we ploughed this year dried out and didn't establish very well in the dry spring.
Not a great average yield to be honest this year, 1 good field and 2 bad ones. Which is basically linseed for you!

Yep, looked good all the way through, but a much sandier field was cultivated first to mix in the muck and then 'dd'd' (so really min till?) and didn't do so well, but a much poorer field. The ploughed field was just dreadful, moisture retention the key early on it seems.
Thanks Daniel. Is that spring sown?
What is the margin like compared with other spring crops?

best way is to take all fingers off auger and replace with 2 paddles
At least it fell out the combine!Any of you guys who have been cruising through linseed using a Lexion? We started this afternoon with our 570 in sun and a light breeze, but slow going. Rotors vibrate and "bump" a bit at times. Sample in tank has quite a few unthreshed capsules. Have engaged de-awning plates. Can only manage 2kph. Maybe we're a bit too soon, but seed is about 10%. Regloned 8 days ago. Should ALL the stems be dead...right down to the knife position?? What settings are other Lexion users on, please? Had a interesting episode when I noticed from the tractor that a trail of straw had burst into flames, half way down the field. Managed to put it out with the tractor wheels and then by stamping on the embers. Flames were about 4-5ft high and about 6ft of trail burning when I got to it!! A wad of red hot straw must have been spat out from the rotors!
I had problems on black with weed control. But @Daniel and others have managed. You need an SU + Flagon (and MCPA but you are not allowed to use it!).Thanks Daniel. Is that spring sown?

As this is a linseed thread just a question to growers. We have a real problem with rosebay willow herb in lnseed. We have used an SU and hbn but this is not effective. Any ideas?
