Does anybody know of a contractor who has a windrower / compost turning machine who would do a job in Herefordshire?

Does anybody have any ideas for turning compost / FYM muck heaps which is better than using a loader?

Thanks.

Problem with those machines your stuck to relatively shallow windrows which arnt good for composting and require much more space. A deep clamp is much more efficient. These can be any size really but generally around 4m high. Without doubt then the easiest turning machine is a 360 with a telehandler bucket, sat to one side of the clamp or on a bank of compost you make up.

Would you not be better having a 360 digger on the job.We found too much space was needed for a turner on my site we handled about 2000 ton a month and if one windrow was been awkward not getting up to temp etc we were snookered :)

We run a Menart, does a good job, although it does sometimes block the first time over, (we tip trailer loads of dung in a line), then you are buggered as the clatter clutch goes off and you have to drag it / dig it out and start again. The type in the sale catalouge is better, as if it blocks you can lift it clear. Menart are ridiculous on spares prices, but all the running gear is standard and can be got from a bearing supplies type place.

Couldn’t you not leave a rear discharge spreader parked but running next to the heap and keep filling it
You’ll end up with a well broken up heap behind wouldn’t you
Or is it better in rows

This is a good way for the initial mix but as said no good for turning after which is key.

At present we are turning it with a JCB. The trouble is it's very labour intensive and the amount that we do requires a lot of space if we had a windrower it would help make a lot faster as more oxygen will be able to get in.
