I found that feed that contained confectionary varied too much, smell altered and cow pats changed as if rancid oils were used at times. Some years it was rocket fuel you couldnt beat and others it just upset them .

no upset's here but went to a lot of trouble mixing.

What sort of weight gains are you getting from it and what price a ton is it seen as though it’s a price tracker thread ?

Best bull I had averaged 2.9kg/day over a 40 day period. Id say on average across a 5/6 month feeding period 1.8kg/day be very achievable. Price £228/t collected as I first posted

£230 odd

The lass from there was on the phone a couple of weeks ago if I remember right it was £180 collected for the fattening ration
Obviously to get it up to us would be another £17 a tonne maybe which takes the shine off it would need protein added too for us

have ended up with some quite stemmy poor silage that needs using for some store cattle that will be going out grazing ,would soya/distillers be the best type protein to get some weight gain from it

Would some molasses and urea help intakes and protein or pot ayle and molasses mixed ?

About 20% more than a dry mix. But if they eating more than that it’s a good thing as long as they are performing. A 500kg bull needs to eat 7kg of a barley ration to stand still that’s the expensive bit. The last 4kg puts all the weight on so if it eats another 1 again that’s where the real performance is coming from

Yep think they would...i have had steers eating that and little bit more when they nearly there...costing a fiver a day to keep...it certainly adds up then
