Excellent example of how grants damage businesses.

Not sure how much land drainage is now, but surely at least another £50/ac/yr would have been made from the drained land over the last 50 yrs?

Though I do know clays installed in '60s and '70s and before are still working better than '80s plastic! But would probably have a job to get clays now!

I wouldn’t want to think of the cost of a clay tile compared to plastic either

No not for us. We went from 15 stone brick/wooden byres, none of them could get a tractor in all to muck out by hand to 3 sheds.
The cattle numbers went up so did the production and we could buy land.
Land improvement grants helped push production and profits
They did no end of good I can remember being told that there was 800k of grant money available to claim most of that was 80% the only thing that was wrong was we didn’t claim enough but we probably did what we could if I know anything

Where on earth did you source your clogs ?
Or are you a dab hand at woodwork ?
But I expect even they are comfier than Nora wellies !

One has them hand made from a bespoke template of my feet in a colour of my choice (burnt orange being an especial favourite) using only black poplar as the sole and the finest calf skin leather for the upper. Unfortunately my clog maker has retired to his bodgers hut

Now one can source an ersatz clog from Germany (with steel toecaps) under the Brynje brand … but they cannot take the hammer and disintegrate after a year which, at £200 a pair, is no damned good

Other than that, I wear a “European Comfort Shoe” clog indoors and for driving made by Josef Seibel and sourced from Dickies Discount Shoes down the road from here

Do you wear them purely because they are comfortable, or is it a fashion statement of choice ?
I’m now picturing @unlacedgecko in clogs and those shorts !😳😂

Comfortable and easy to slip on & off

Plus it’s what my forefathers and their men would have worn. Most farms had poplar or willow so the clog maker could pick his tree on his annual visit
