Confessions of the Sheep/Beef Cattle/Pig Addicts

View attachment 1168974View attachment 1168975View attachment 1168976In keeping with today’s theme, had these this week, all by the new shorthorn bull, all first time heifers spat them out in their own outside, three heifer calves!! Much better than the other bunch by the new lim bull 🤦
Lovely looking cattle but, but it looks so dry, at least an inch of rain last night here, we’re going to have a serious problem in April if ours doesn’t look like that by then.

Wretched morning here. Steady rain and cold easterly. When will this weather pick up ?

Was at a farm sale yesterday on a fairly exposed farm.Bitterly cold. Everyone well wrapped up with wooly hats on.

According to the Met Office next week is damp with possibility of heavy showers. Looks a bit better for the following week for us

Sunday 24 Mar - Sunday 7 Apr

During late-March and into the start of April, pressure is likely to remain higher than average to the north of the UK. This pattern tends to push the focus of unsettled weather further south than usual, with highest rainfall most likely to be in the south of the UK. Conversely, northern areas tend to be drier compared to normal. Temperatures will probably be near average or slightly above overall, with any cooler interludes most likely in the north.

Unfortunately higher than average pressure for the northern UKat this time of year, means dragging in easterly air over the North Sea.. It might be dry but it‘s unlik to be very warm or more importantly growthy

What’s the general consensus of the team here…
I rent some ground with a river running along the edge of it quite a big river about 20-30 metres wide…
The first time it’s been dry enough too drive around the land feeding my ewes and lambs today .. the other side of the river they were having a clay pigeon shoot, soon as I arrived they stopped shooting, then I had a drive round and realised my field is now scattered in smashed clays… wanted too bale these fields for hay later in the year 🙄🙄 I have the number for the fella who runs the clay pigeon shooting.. but have I even a leg too stand on before I ring him up going wild?

Fly tipping? Start by ringing and not going wild see what he says then go from there

They used too shoot the other direction but I’m guessing that the person who owns that land has kicked off at him now because he’s sold all his sheep and going into just making hay/haylage .. so now I appear too be getting the clays fired at me… can’t be great for my sheep being pebble dashed all day long every Saturday/Sunday 🙄

Start by trying to be reasonable. Such as oi Pedro, it might have been polite to let me know you were shooting over my field . I think paying for a few ton of crystalix blocks , and a few loads of hay to compensate for the loss of the following hay crop would be polite !
Failing that , send him a warning picture of the gecko and his interns !

Who do you rent the land off? Through an agent or someone you know? I'd be speaking to them first

How long do they take to disintergrate? I thought they dissolved in time?
