I haven’t got anywhere to foster lambs so mine are running without lambs, will have a sort through at the end and kill all not rearing lambs, will be a fair few.
Tbf , fostering is all dependent on what mood I’m in , or how much other plate spinning is going on .
As often said , you can miss a lot of avoidable things out in the fields by messing around with skinning etc on a few in the shed !

I’m not usually that bothered about loosing a few I always catch the ewes however bad they are to get to and bring them in to set a lamb on. This year we aren’t having much success setting lambs on they just plainly don’t bloody want them. Be around 20% success at the moment if I was to guess. I’ve got rid of loads of pet lambs mothering them onto singles to make a twin at birth but putting one on is hopeless

I find it very cathartic when it’s all going to shyte here, that I’m not alone in having a carp time of it .
Poor reflection on me probably, but there is a certain comfort to be found in other folks misery !
😂👍
Well when @Estate fencing. was feeling a bit fed up I couldn’t help myself but to express what I’m experiencing too
I’m not one of these types that stand at the mart and tell everyone I don’t loose anything

Having a heap of hung lambs as well, in twins as well as singles. Singles are kept really tight but lambs are big. Had several twins hang their 2nd lamb , which I ‘ve not seen before.
Lost 3 this morning hung alone 🤬

Are the lambs big, or the tegs small?
I'm getting a lot stuck, even though presented right. Lambs are a decent enough size, but not huge, but the winter has meant that the tegs just haven't grown steadily, as they normally do. Most will be little bigger than when they were tupped.:(

Anything that has a dead lamb is getting chucked out onto good grass to sell fat in 3-4 weeks time. Anything I lamb is coming into the shed to feed their lamb colostrum, before the lamb goes on the machine, and the teg joins the barren ones.
Just hope the Hogg trade stays up and their teeth stay down...

Tend to agree with you. The time that can be wasted on adoption, and loose something other. Mrs feeds the pets,.
We have a fling and go adoption option, that mostly works. That is ewe in pen beside other ewes with lambs. Put a pet in with her and leave for at least half an hour. If not getting on hold ewe and get lamb sucking. Get one day only, if not working pet back in pet pen.
Only do it if ewe is fresh lambed and making fuss of lamb. If she's wondered away from lamb, don't bother.
