Corrosion/rust inhibiter

Anyone found a successful spray-on product, better than old oil, to spray on the wearing parts of machinery to put away for the winter. Even under cover here the atmosphere is so humid that shiny metal soon goes orange in the winter.

I find Morris ankor wax brilliant. It's flows much better than waxoyl and soaks into rust and creeps into crevices, it stays soft and doesn't flake off. I spray it on with a cheap paint gun, if it's cold it will want warming up to make it runnier. It goes on like thick oil but dries after a while and becomes like soft wax. I spray it on pretty much anything that's getting rusty, it slowly turns the rust black and kills it as well as stopping new rust forming

Not used Ensis but looking it up it sounds very similar, it's light brown in color and seems to be a mix of soft wax dissolved in penetrating oil. It has the consistency of runny wallpaper paste. It's a temporary coating but I find spraying it on once a year works well, it will survive several pressure washings

Always used Waxoyl, but the newer products seem better at neutralising rusty areas I believe.

ACF50 is a great "low build" anti corrosion product, long been a favourite on motorcycles.

I used Ensis 30 years ago as a harvest student, the boss was very keen on it, have never seen it since!

I have some semi-fluid grease that was taken out of a powerharrow trough, paint the plough etc with it and its great.

i mix hydraulic oil with wd40 and use in their apllicator sprays you can got really high percentage of oil too and it still sprays great, then you can get it all over the place in chassis leg etc

We've always used Ensis - now by Houghton who bought from Shell. I agree you can paint any old oily sh*t on mouldboards, discs etc and in many cases it's just for tidiness and looks as the surface rust that builds over just a few months is unlikely to have dome much structural damage when put back in the ground in the Spring. Cracks and crevices and enclosed sections like chassis are somewhat more difficult. But it's nice to do it neatly and knowing that what you've done is fit for purpose. Each to his own.
