Err... against the global backdrop of the economic damage the virus caused which is surely in the trillions globally and so harming the economic prospects of basically every developed country in the world? 100 billion dollars is something you would class as a win in the face of that lot? I should think China had their economy and society fudged the hardest by it all, you reckon they released this deliberately?

About the only win I can think of is that adenoviral vector and mRNA vaccine technology will now be pursued more intensively as a way of treating or defending against other diseases at some point in the future.

No doubt there will be another novel and population increasing-ly deadly virus along shortly to that effect.

Yes, such was the deadliness of covid, that caused the world to shut down and enable the biggest shift in wealth from the poor and middle classes to the rich, that the global population increased. What a pandemic.

I'm glad the Scottish government is taking better care of its citizens than the rogue elements in Westminster are of its. Pandemics are horrible. Best fought on a united front that values medical advancements.

This thread was started because of debilitating covid coughs, and the troubles of opportunistic secondary infections. There are simple, either free or cheap, ways to address coughs that are not associated with secondary infection.

The best way not to get virus related coughs is to not become infected by the virus that causes the disease that leads to coughs. The cheapest ways to do that are by vaccination and easy biosecurity, which are much cheaper than the cost of treatment for the disease. Pausing activities across the globe whilst keeping key organisations and industries working as safely as possible whilst ridding SARS-CoV-2 from Earth should have been a no brainer ~ the means already existed for science and logistics to do so ~ but instead, millions of lives were lost as a direct consequence of a few opportunistic actors for money, politics, and sheer crankery. Certain billionaires most definitely have grabbed wealth, and want more. They've dazzled good people among the dim and easily led into supporting them.

Sadly, around 70 people died in the UK as a result of taking covid vaccines. I don't have the fine details, but every single one is acknowledged. As I understand it, one death was associated with mRNA vaccine. The rest were AZ. One, a man, was 18 years old. None were younger. The noise from antivax influenced people who were conned into believing themselves injured by vaccines has drowned out information about the few people who had genuine adverse effects from vaccination. These people were not compensated nearly enough because complacency in successive governments had pegged compensation money to rates from c30 years ago instead of keeping up to date with costs of living. I don't blame any who have kept quiet about their experiences. Their stories should be heard, but Anti-vaccine disinformation twists their valid experiences into a terrible circus of antivax lies just to promote fear of vaccines for reasons of profiteering and politicking.

I believe the true number to be much higher, looking especially at sudden cardiac and stroke related deaths and cancers. I’m involved in a sports club locally and was saying to a couple of close mates of mine to be aware during trainings and games of possible cardiac issues, last year at one of the trainings sure enough one of the young lads dropped, he was seen to very quickly and taken to hospital where he arrested and was brought back around, this is not normal

How many professional athletes have dropped on the field recently too? I understand it happened here and there in history but it was never this prevalent.

Cardiac issues are listed in the side effects of the vaccines, so I don’t think this classes as conspiracy theory territory. How many more folk have been wondering around with compromised cardio systems completely oblivious?

Many contagious diseases, mostly wiped out by elevated living standards (better hygiene, sanitation and nutrition), will be increasing in the certain parts of the world that are suffering influx of illegal immigrants, that is the root cause, not the lack of vaccines.

The back and fourth here shows how similar our arguments are, the side you find yourself on just depends upon whose information you believe to be true.

I fundamentally believe that huge global corporations and our governments (often at the behest of the former) are incredibly corrupt (this happens wherever money/power are concentrated, a major flaw in human nature), and do not have our best interests at heart, and it obviously affects what I believe to be true and what I believe to be lies. I think my views on covid and certainly it’s response are quite inline with these fundamentals.
